Its tueday again which means another day of Music/Bands I like!

For today I wanted to share with you a old time favorite: The Promise Ring

When I first started getting into them, their music was usually classified as emo, but their later albums could be described more accurately as indie pop. The band was started in 1995 as a side project but quickly grew into a fan favorite.

If you are fans of bands like: Jimmy Eat World, Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil, Sunny Day Real Estate, Death Cab for Cutie then you just might like The Promise Ring (They broke up in early 2000′s)

The Promise Ring – Why Did We Ever Meet?

The Promise Ring – Emergency Emergency

The Promise Ring – Become One Anything One Time

Enjoy!

For this weeks Band I like, I decided to mix it up a little. Without fur ado I present “K-OS”, a fusion of hiphop/r&b/reggae and funk.  His lyrics frequently focus on promoting a “positive message” while times expressing criticism of mainstream hip hop culture’s obsession with money, fame and glorification of violence. k-os usually performs with a live band, something that is uncommon in the hip hop. Best of all he is Canadian!

Check it out.

K-Os – Man I Used To Be

K-Os – Born To Run

K-Os – Sunday Morning

K-Os – Crucial

Enjoy!

Tuesdays new special: Bands I like!

Today being a most beautiful day of reading and enjoying a mix of music from the amazing video ipod, I decided to let you all in on some of my favorite artists. Caution: I am no musical genius but feel I have a somewhat good taste in music. Call me vein or whatever but without further ado.

One of my favorite bands right now and for the past 3 years has been Annuals. If you click the link you will read: Annuals infuse their music with an array of intense emotions. As young as they are, Annuals draws influences from a diverse range of artists such as Mike Patton, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Radiohead, the Beatles, Hank Williams Sr., Bjork and Aphex Twin. The mixing of styles, from electronic to folk to rock results in a totally singular sound. Reminiscent of high drama acts such as Arcade Fire and Sufjan Stevens, this musical collective appeals to both experimental and pop fans who appreciate well-produced material and artristry(Would have wrote my own review but this one said it best).

Check Them Out:

Annuals – Brother

Annuals – Carry Around

Annuals – Dry Clothes

Hope you enjoy! I’m plannin on seeing them live in San Diego for my Bday. So excited!

Finding Inspiration

27 Mar

I have always had this dream…. that someday I would be this great song writer/muscian. I don’t really feel like a have that great of a voice so that was never part of the dream to sing but ehhh.
I first started playing the guitar about 3 years ago out of a crazy whim, also there was only one other person to lead worship for my Youth group, so I wanted to help. So at first it was exciting, I was playing everyday 2 or 3 hours just trying to master certain chords. It continued like that until I finished college.
Now I have always been a writer. I love to write. I wouldn’t say that I am exceptional at it but I can hold my own. So within those first two years I felt like I was writing and playing, creative juices were flowing. But now I just can seem to find that edge, that appeal of melodies/words… I try to find inspiration in different types of music, artist that I respect lyrically/muscianship but I feel so unmotivated.
Perhaps it is just a stage… and I will find my niche again, somehow, somewhere…

How/where do you find your inspiriation?
